Group therapy is a wonderful way to gain support while you are going through a challenge in your life. In group therapy, you will meet other people who are experiencing similar problems to the ones that you are having and together you will learn strategies to improve your lives. In group therapy, you are able to realize that you are not alone and that we all share very common thoughts and feelings that are hard to deal with.
It is also thought that therapy groups become a “social microcosm” and that people tend to act out the same behaviors in group therapy that they do in their everyday lives. This gives people the opportunity to gain a huge amount of insight about the way that their interpersonal interactions are affecting their lives.
Some people enjoy group therapy more than individual therapy, and some people like to do both at the same time to maximize their mental health benefits.
